Hi, I’m Spiro (@supirou2052), an illustrator.
When VTubers and streamers commission illustrations or artwork, unexpected additional fees may arise.
One of the most common reasons for these fees is design costs.
Have you ever experienced something like this?

Typically, there is a clear distinction between “Illustration” and “Character Design” services.
When requesting an “Illustration,” a pre-existing design (such as a reference sheet) is provided, and the illustrator creates the artwork based on it. However, additional fees often apply in the following cases:
- When clothing design is required
Requests such as “Please dress the character in [specific outfit]” or “I’d like them to wear something like [this style]” require the illustrator to design the outfit, leading to additional charges.
- When the reference sheet is incomplete
If the reference sheet only includes a front view, other angles like a three-quarter or back view need to be designed. This is especially challenging for characters with mechanical parts or complex structures, often resulting in extra fees. In some cases, the illustrator may even need to decline the request due to its complexity.
- When creating detailed illustrations from rough designs
If the client provides only a simple rough design or chibi-style concept, and requests a detailed, realistic touch, the illustrator must create intricate details such as accessories, costumes, or tattoos. This process typically incurs additional charges.
On the other hand, choosing a service like “Surprise Me!”, which doesn’t include revisions, can sometimes help reduce additional costs. For example, requesting a “Surprise Me!” illustration with standard attire like a bikini or maid outfit might not incur extra fees, depending on the illustrator.
